HWEHWEMUDUA

Literally: "A measuring rod."
A person whose performance is always exemplary.

Doing his best was not an effort saved for special activities, it was a part of his every-day lifestyle.

Whether it was preparing for Christmas, serving his community, or going dancing, my father always gave maximum effort.

AGINDAWURU

Literally: "The gong of Agyin, the Faithful Servant."
Symbol of faithfulness, alertness and dutifulness.

A lot has changed since my father began to get involved in community service in the late '40's. The world has become a less giving and forgiving place in the last half century.

So, for many of us, the idea of service to others may seem like a "Pollyanna" belief, very naïve and idealistic, but not very practical.

But, service to others gave my father something money couldn't buy: a great deal of self-respect and the respect and admiration of countless others. It was the currency by which he valued his life.
