n 1954, my father and mother purchased a house in New Haven at 484 Norton Parkway, near Bowen Field. It was a white, colonial-style house, with white pillars in front and a large backyard. The commute to my father's office was about six minutes.

With dining room, living room, sun porch, full basement and attic, the four-bedroom house, was more than four times bigger than the tiny two-bedroom apartment over my father's office where we had been living. We stopped spending winter weekends in Milford, and became more centered in New Haven.
