The camp was in a remote, but scenic, mountain location. When the clouds lifted, Ajaccio Bay was visible 10 miles away. A small, mountain stream cascaded over cliffs and dropped hundreds of feet to a new stream bed in front of the medical dispensary, before rushing farther down the mountain.

Although his official title was Medical Officer, because of his language skills, he spent a great deal of time interpreting for the accident investigating officer.

He was treated with respect by his commanding officer, Colonel Broderick, and the rest of the officers in the 121st.

He stayed with the 121st, even after they were transferred to a base, outside of Pisa, Italy.

By that time, the war in Europe was winding down, finally ending on May 8, 1945, Victory in Europe (VE) Day.
